Celebrating Christmas with Real Meaning

"The angel said unto them, Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all the people" Luke 2:10

I am finding it very meaningful and renewing to remind my self of what Christmas actually means to me and to the whole world. Traditional and false understanding of the Bible takes away the power from the word of God. It always helps to take a fresh look at what the Bible has to say about the birth of Jesus. Here is another verse from the Bible which gives real meaning of Christmas - Birth of Jesus, the Christ:
  1. Christmas is good news
  2. Christmas news is of great joy
  3. Christmas is for everyone
What makes this news so special?

It's because Jesus (Greek word Jesus means Savior) is born. Jesus is the Christ - the anointed one, separated one for the purpose of saving people from the bondage of sin.
"For to you is born this day in the town of David a Savior, Who is Christ (the Messiah) the Lord!" Luke 2:11
To understand the value of freedom, one should talk to the people who were under the bondage. When I read about Corrie Ten Boom from the book "The Hiding Place", how she was able to go through the concentration camp with real joy in her heart in the midst of tears and how God miraculously freed her from it, I was able to appreciate the value of freedom that Jesus has given me from my sinful nature.

Here are some simple ways to celebrate Christmas with real meaning -
  1. Realize that this great news is for you.
  2. Understand the real meaning of Christmas - Don't be under the cloud of false understanding.
  3. Share the news with others - share your understanding with family, relatives, friends and children.
  4. Worship the Lord and be thankful to God for the salvation - Worship individually as well as with your fellowship.
  5. Learn to take rest in the Heavenly Father.
  6. Finally rejoice in the Lord with good food.
I would be glad to know other meaningful ways of celebrating the birth of Jesus. Please share your thoughts.

Questions to Ponder:
  1. What is the reason for you to celebrate Christmas?
  2. Do you take rest in the Heavenly Father this season?

Perfect Peace and protection

"You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts you" - Isaiah 26:3 We all long for peace in our life. There are people who are willing to offer anything in exchange for peace. Peace is very much essential for any successful relationship, whether it is between two nations or among people. In fact, one needs to be at peace with himself to become successful in life. In the above verse from the Bible, God is promising to keep him in perfect peace . The important phrase to note is " perfect peace ". One thing to note is that this is peace from God, which comes from above. If we read this verse in amplified version, it is beautifully described as " you will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace ...". This peace is perfect peace - There is nothing that needs to be added or in want of beyond this peace This peace is constant peace, which means this will not be taken away There is protection (God will guard him) Next, we...

Word of Authority

During the time when Jesus was on this earth, there was a Centurion in the city of Capernaum. One of his bond servants fell ill to the point of death. When he came to know that Jesus was in the city, he sent some men to request Jesus to come to his house and heal the servant. After some time, he sent some more men to implore him not to come under his roof, but just to speak word of healing. What made the centurion to change his mind? The centurion understood the power of word spoken with authority. In his daily life he had been experiencing it when he commands the soldiers and servants under him. "For I also am a man [daily] subject to authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my bond servant, Do this, and he does it." Luke 7:8 The same principle he applied towards Jesus. He heard about Jesus - His word carrying authority to forgive sins and heal the sick people. He must have reasoned out that if my word...

The refiners fire...

"He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver." Malachi 3:3 This verse puzzled some women in a Bible study And they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God. One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible Study. That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining silver. As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest! as to burn away all the impurities. The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot; then she thought again about the verse that says: "He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver." She asked the silversmith if ...
